Rectum and Anal Canal

Anal Canal

Rectum

At the level of the between of the sacrum, the sigmoid colon loses its peritoneum and gradually becomes the rectum, which, at the upper limit of the pelvic arch, ends in the anal canal.

The rectum is about 15 cm long, broadens below as the ampulla (body part), which is very expansive. Although variable in form, the rectum follows the sacrococcygeal bend. At the anorectal joint, the gut joint backward and its concavity is held by the puborectal sling, which can be palpated per year. The rectum is presents three or more lateral curvatures, which correspond to transverse rectal folds in the interior of the gut. The rectum has neither mesentery nor haustra, and the rectum has an almost complete outer longitudinal muscular coat rather than teniae.

Anal canal

The anal canal is the terminal part of the large intestine, which passes the stool from the rectum to anus.

Anal canal is situated between the rectum and the anus. An anal canal extends from the level of the upper aspect of the pelvic diaphragm to the anus. The anal canal is about 3 cm in length. The congenital anomaly in which the anal canal fails to communicate with the exterior is known as anus
